iPhone Duo: what Apple’s $1,999 foldable offers
A screen that opens for two apps, Touch ID and a different camera setup from the Pro: what iPhone Duo offers at its launch price.
Apple announced its first foldable iPhone on September 9, 2026. iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and reaches stores on October 23.¹ In Brazil, the 256GB model costs R$21,999.⁴
The value depends on how often you would use the larger screen. Even the starting configuration is expensive, so making use of the design needs to be part of the decision.

A bigger screen for two apps
The Duo combines a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner display. The inner screen has a nano-texture finish to reduce glare. Apple says the phone will ship with iOS 27.1.¹
Open it horizontally to run two apps side by side in Split View. In portrait orientation, a video can stay at the top while another app fills the space below. Partially folded on a table, the phone supports itself for a video or call.²
Someone who usually opens one app at a time might rarely use the extra space. A frequent need to switch between tasks could make the design more useful.
Different cameras and fingerprint unlocking
The Duo uses Touch ID in its side button and supports eSIM only, with no physical SIM tray. Its rear cameras are a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultrawide. The 2x zoom uses the main camera; there’s no dedicated telephoto.³
The design also lets people being photographed see their framing on the outer screen. Called Duo Preview, it helps them adjust their pose without the photographer turning the phone around.²
A higher price doesn’t guarantee that every component beats its counterpart in a conventional phone. Much of the value here lies in the extra display space and the ways the device can be positioned.
Battery life depends on which screen you use
Apple lists up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner one.³ These are video-playback estimates; battery life in other activities can vary.
A useful battery assessment needs to record how much time the phone spent unfolded. Comparing only the highest advertised figure would hide the very condition that changes power consumption.
Brazil pricing and availability
Apple’s Brazilian store opens preorders on October 16 at 9 a.m. Brasília time, with availability beginning October 23.⁴

These are Apple’s Brazilian prices, rather than currency conversions from the U.S. model’s $1,999 starting price.¹ ⁴ The R$9,000 gap between 256GB and 2TB makes storage a substantial decision alongside choosing a foldable design.
